When a nervous young truck driver showed up at the Sun Records’ studio in Memphis on a hot July day in 1954 he wasn’t expecting to make history. Neither were popular local musicians Scotty Moore and Bill Black who had grudgingly agreed to audition the fledgling singer as a favor to Sun boss Sam Phillips. The session wasn’t going particularly well and the seasoned musicians weren’t impressed when the newcomer started fooling around between takes. Twisting the popular boogie-woogie music of the day with the bluesy gospel rhythms and fast-picking hillbilly tempos of his youth, Elvis Presley created a fresh, new sound that electrified the room. “Get that on the radio and they’ll run us out of town,” Black said at the end of the session. Airing for the first time on July 8, 1954, That’s All Right launched Elvis Presley’s career and forever changed American music.
His partner on stage during those heady early days was the Martin D-28 Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar. In commemoration of the King of Rock and Roll’s legacy to music, Martin’s master luthiers have created this incredible Elvis Presley Special Edition acoustic guitar. Selecting only the most resonate tonewoods, Martin’s master craftsmen
have used East Indian rosewood to craft the back and sides of this fine instrument and carved the top from Carpathian spruce to produce a responsive guitar with impressive volume, punch and sustain. Bound in grained ivoroid, the Martin Special Edition D-28 Elvis Presley Acoustic Guitar will make a unique and handsome addition to any guitar collection.

B3dawg of Clovis, California, who uses the XS7 in concert with an organ during worship services, says, “The XS7 is perfect, with a board that is large enough to allow for most piano parts with killer synth action, yet without the weight of the XS8 … For a second instrument to the organ, they just don’t get any better. With painstaking care, the master luthiers at Gibson’s Nashville Custom Shop have duplicated the incredible vintage vibe and amazing sound of the legendary Gibson Les Paul 1958 Goldtop Electric Guitar. Just 100 of these uniquely finished Gibson Custom 1958 Les Paul Goldtop Electric Guitars have been created by Gibson’s master craftsmen in honor of the 50th Anniversary of this music icon.
Collectors know that the unusually beautiful Goldtops are even rarer than the 1958 Les Paul sunbursts. Selecting historically accurate tone woods of the finest quality, Gibson’s craftsmen have used the intricate antiquing process developed by guitar artisan Tom Murphy to recreate the superb vintage look of this iconic electric guitar. An intense, labor-intensive, multi-step process, Murphy aging uses a carefully hand-applied technique and nitrocellulose finish to achieve a museum-quality patina. Tom Murphy is the recognized master at reproducing the weathered scars and authentically chipped finish of a lovingly played guitar. The Gibson Custom 50th Anniversary 1958 Les Paul Murphy-Aged Goldtop Electric Guitar looks like it’s weathered a thousand smoky bars, hundreds of hours under hot stage lights, and years of hard-playing studio sessions.
But Gibson has caught more than the look of this legendary instrument, vintage tulip tuners, BurstBucker pickups, CTS pots and bumblebee capacitors replicate the rich, dynamic sound that made the 1958 Les Paul electric guitar the voice of rock’s golden age. In 1959, Gibson added wider, fatter, jumbo frets to its Les Paul Standard electric guitar. But it took nearly a decade for the full force of that change to register with the music world. It was not until rock guitar legends Eric Clapton, Mike Bloomfield and Peter Green started pushing the boundaries of guitar sound with dramatic bends and wailing solos that the artistic flexibility and fat, warm voice of the ‘59 Standard made it the quintessential electric rock guitar. To the delight of working guitarists and collectors, Gibson has recreated this important slice of music history by building a limited number of Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Reissue Quilt Top Electric Guitars.
Featuring an exact duplicate of the 1959 carved top with a neck pitch set to 1959 specifications, this Limited Edition Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Reissue Quilt Top Electric Guitar has been given a rare, rich, vintage washed-cherry finish, making it not only historically significant, but stunningly handsome. Combining the best of time-honored traditional hand craftsmanship with state-of-the-art modern technology, the superb luthiers at Gibson’s Custom Shop have painstakingly recreated the vintage elements that made the 1959 Standard a standout in the music world.
